House Flies

House flies are one of the most common and probably easily identifiable of the filth fly species. They are dull gray in color and have black vertical lines on the top of their body. Adults will also have two stripes on their face- one silver and one gold in color. Adult house flies grow to about 1/8th-1/4 of an inch in length. Their larvae are off-white in color and have a pointed head and no appendages; the pupa is dark brown, round in shape and tapers from front to back.

Yes. House flies are dangerous to have in and around your home. Before finding their way into your home they will have been landing and feeding on garbage, excrement, carcasses, and other less than desirable things. The disease, bacteria, and parasites that they house on their bodies and legs will be introduced into your structure with them. Also, when feeding, house flies regurgitate their stomach contents onto food to liquefy it before ingesting it causing even more contamination. House flies spread things like cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, salmonella and E. coli bacteria; all which can cause serious health concerns for people.

House flies are a type of filth fly, outside these types of flies are generally found living and resting around the things that they lay their eggs on and feed on. House flies can be found flying around garbage, manure and garden areas with fresh fruits and veggies.
